Blue Bloods Recap 11/10/17: Season 8 Episode 6 Common Grounds

Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) comes into the kitchen and continues to struggle with parenting his sons, when one of them confronts him about everything their mother, Linda did for them, that she didn’t have to do, but did it because she loved them; and they have asked him five times for a basketball hoop for the house and he still hasn’t done it. His son storms off, leaving Danny stone-faced in the kitchen.

At the prison, a woman refuses to leave until she speaks to Teresa Hill; the corrections officer (Adam Ratcliffe) says that isn’t going to happen. She is ordered to settle down but when she doesn’t, another CO (Panama Redd) arrests her. Meanwhile, Dt. Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) tells Danny he can’t feel guilty because Linda isn’t around anymore. They are at the hospital regarding a woman who has been assaulted by her boyfriend; screams come from the room and they see the same man, Raymond Stevens with his hands around her throat; Danny jumps him as Baez attends to the patient.

Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) and Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) arrive at their call to a movie theater where they were told a woman is in distress. The usher shows her where she is, they rush over and realize she is in labor; Janko calls for a bus while Jamie informs her that he has delivered babies before and everything is going to be okay. He gets his gloves on as Eddie tells him “no”, but he tells the woman to take some deep breaths. Eddie calls again for the bus as Jamie tells her to push as he sees the head, he is able to deliver a beautiful healthy boy.

Sid Gormley (Robert Clohessy) and Garrett Moore (Gregory Jbara) are talking to Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) when Dt. Abigail Baker (Abigail Hawk) comes in and informs him that Shelley Wayne is there, who accepted his invitation without anyone else’s knowledge. She was the woman at Rikers, trying to see Teresa Hill earlier; she says she found purpose in ministering people in prison; he scoffs that there is a conspiracy to keep her away from Hill who swears she witnessed a murder and it was a guard who killed her friend. He tells her not to play the “Us Vs. Them” song for him, as he asked her there to have a real conversation but when she doesn’t want to listen he bids her farewell. She calls a truce, thanks to him for reaching out and is certain Teresa Hill is telling the truth but Frank isn’t so sure.

Jamie and Eddie help the woman get on the gurney with her baby and offer to contact the father. Eddie says he was amazing but is shocked to learn he never delivered a baby before and only said it to stay calm. She wants to know if he wants to have kids, saying seeing the woman instantaneously fall in love with the baby the second she saw his face and she wants to know what that feels like.

Danny talks to the assault victim, who says Raymond started becoming violent about a month ago when she was at work. Danny is surprised to learn she was a nurse. Baez suggests she gets an order of protection as there is no guarantee he won’t leave her alone. She is told to call 911 if he shows up or contacts her but Danny gives her his personal number if anything should happen. She worries about his hand, but he says it is part of the job. She says she is a nurse and for him to get it cleaned up and x-rayed.

Jamie and Eddie go to the address the woman told them to go to, they are invited in but see it is a condemned house. There are 5 children living there, Jamie says they need to report this to FDNY but Eddie worries they will lose their home. Danny is about to leave work and pick up his son when he gets a call from Faith that she thinks Raymond is about to kill her. He continues to ram into her car, as Danny orders her to get off the freeway and go to the precinct where he is.

Faith is escorted into the precinct, but they cannot be sure it was Raymond even though he was released an hour ago. Danny says he will take her home and tells officers to stake out her place.

Frank learns that the inmate in question was found hanging with a bed sheet around her neck, there is no security footage from that day and the guard has a history of sexual assault on his record, but none of them have been investigated. Garrett doesn’t like that Shelley is doing the bidding here and Sid kind of agrees as they are breaking the chain of command here. Garrett informs him that Shelley called a radio show accusing NYPD of being complicit in covering the murder of an inmate by a CO. Sid is fuming.

Danny brings Faith home, he checks the house as she reveals she lives there alone after her husband passed away. She offers him a beer, initially, he refuses but when he learns she isn’t doing okay, he agrees to the beer and talks to her about her relationship with Raymond. Danny learns Faith’s deceased husband was a Bronx narcotics cop and Faith finds out that Linda was a nurse.

Jamie and Eddie come to see mother and baby, where the father is awfully grateful for helping her. Jamie informs them their home has been shut down for building code violations and they have been kicked out. Mr. Alvarez is upset until his wife says they have everything, they have each other and their son; he says they will be okay as Eddie looks concerned.

Danny goes to see his sister, Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) angry that Raymond was released on an ROR; and that he later tried to run her off the road. Danny assumes it was him, but Faith never identified him. Erin informs him that Raymond wanted to charge him for the lump on his head. Erin thinks the case is affecting him on a personal level; she tells him to get a paint chip from her bumper that matches his car, a video or an eyewitness or something substantial to nail him. Danny walks out hoping it won’t be a body.

At family dinner, Danny cannot let the case go and talks about the violent offenders being set free. Erin says it would be great for Danny to be a prosecutor for a week, he agrees saying he could put all the bad guys away. Henry, the grandfather (Len Cariou) agrees with Danny saying the rights of law-abiding citizens trump the rights of violent felons across the board and all day long. Henry says its okay for the law to be blind but not okay for it to be deaf and dumb too.

Jamie reveals delivering the baby, that the parents are illegals, who work to death but just lost their apartment, live in a shelter and there is nothing he can do to help them. Its brought up that by coming there, they broke the law, but Jamie says the sentence does not fit the crime. Frank says the headline is that Jamie Reagan delivered a baby. He says it was scary, beautiful and one of the most amazing experiences of his life but he hopes the kid has a shot and that the law doesn’t get him.

Frank has a hypothetical for Erin, she pours a drink as he talks to her about Shelley’s story, without names. Erin talks about what could happen to her, depending on the judge and what the CO’s beef is with her; she could get bail that she can’t pay and end up in Rikers anywhere from 6 months to 2 years waiting for trial. Erin says if his friend keeps this up she will find herself between a rock and a hard place.

Eddie shares with Jamie that she found Mr. Alvarez a superintendent job, which comes with an apartment; but it comes with a hitch and won’t reveal what it is immediate to him.

Baez and Danny return to Raymond’s apartment, where he claims to smell gas, the super falls for it and unlocks the door. Danny finds an empty box of ammo while Baez finds on the computer the streets and walkways he was looking at of St. Irene’s where Faith works. Raymond appears while she is on the phone, he points the gun to her face as he demands to know where she is. He shoots her in the chest as Danny helplessly listens. Raymond races down the hallway calling out for Faith.

Danny is told to wait but he says there is no time as its an active shooter. He runs up the stairs to the 5th floor. He checks on the woman who is shot, drags a wounded doctor to the side of the hall while another nurse attends to another shot nurse. Suddenly Danny hears shots fired, saying he is downstairs and orders them all to stay put. Raymond shouts he will keep shooting until he finds her, she is hiding behind a secure door with a child. He barges into another room where a nurse is attending to a child in bed, she claims to not know where Faith is; but when he comes back into the hallway, Faith is trying to run towards Danny with the little boy but Raymond grabs her.

Danny says he wants to work it out, just the two of them as Raymond wants everyone to know what she did. She ripped out his heart and just threw it all away; Danny says he has no regrets about what he is about to do. He tells Danny if he takes that shot and misses he will have to live with himself; the shot is taken and Raymond drops as the bullet hits his head, Faith runs into Danny’s arms.

Shelley comes to see Frank, who is angry about what she said on the radio and no editing will change that. He tells her to either learn how to use the microphone or run away from it. They sit down, he tells her she is smart, wondering if everything is an agenda with her. She appreciates him showing up but he never contributes but he felt he never had anything to offer. He warns her that the way she is going, she is going to end up in the system and sometimes showing up isn’t enough and you have to put some skin into the game.

Danny sits at his desk and sighs when Faith comes to see him. She sees a photo of Linda and compliments his family; thanking him for saving her life. She admits she came with a purpose and would like to see him again, like outside of work, for dinner or a movie. She apologizes for being inappropriate, he says it is okay and its not that he doesn’t find her interesting, beautiful or funny but maybe in another lifetime, when he was a bit better with dealing with things, he would have jumped at the chance.

She understands that it is too soon. Danny says it is weird but he still feels like he is married; she says it stops feeling like that when you give yourself permission to live again; both admit they were very lucky in their marriages.

Eddie tells Jamie the hitch is they will have to work security in the Hamptons next month, its for a couple weekends and all to ensure that the family has a place of their own. The Alvarez family come to see them at the precinct and thank them; Jamie says thanks enough would be to just take care of their family. They reveal their thanks is they named the baby Eddie, looking at Jamie, thinking that was his name. He doesn’t correct them, they shake hands and say goodbye. Janko laughs at Jamie.

Erin and Danny are out back playing with the basketball hoop when his sons come home. Danny admits he doesn’t do everything like their mom did, but he does know how to build a basketball hoop; Erin and Danny take one boy each and play a game of pick up.

At a church, the community takes turns talking about their lives after the loss of their child. Shelley stands up and asks Commissioner Reagan if he would like to say something. He approaches the pulpit, talks about his sons when they were young, and how they went at it in the ring with the boxing gloves with grandpa as the referee. He talks fondly about Joe and Danny and how Erin would enjoy it, because they always picked on her all the time. He talks about getting calls from the school, who wanted to know about the kids split lip and black eye because they were not talking; made Frank proud. He pauses, saying he misses his oldest son, Joe every day and it is funny the things you think about when you miss someone. He looks at Shelley and walks out.
